Car Rallies Across Brazil Call for Reopening of Economy

On Saturday, in São Paulo, protest targeted Doria and Maia amid requests for military intervention

For the second consecutive day, President Jair Bolsonaro participated in a demonstration in Brasília, causing crowds.

Bolsonaro appeared on Sunday (19) at a protest that defended the government, railed against Congress, and promoted military intervention in Brazil.

Demonstrations are underway in different parts of the country, such as São Paulo, Salvador, and Manaus. The protesters call for a return to work and the opening of trade. There are speeches in defense of vertical isolation when only at-risk groups stay at home.

After having lunch at the home of one of his sons, deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PSL-SP), the president went to the Army headquarters, where a demonstration motorcade was parked. The group was made up of a few hundred people, many with banners calling for a new AI-5 and military intervention. When they saw Bolsonaro arrive, the protesters gathered to hear the president.

On the back of a pickup truck, Bolsonaro spoke against what he called old politics.
"Enough with the old politics. Now it is Brazil above all and God above all," he declared. "We don't want to negotiate anything. We want action for Brazil," said the president.

Bolsonaro has encouraged protests. On Saturday (18), the president also left Alvorada to meet with supporters.

The act called by conservative groups in Brasília covers the main political points of the federal capital. The Mayor, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), is the most attacked by the protesters. The protest also targeted the isolation measures adopted by Governor Ibaneis Rocha (MDB).
