On the eve of formally presenting the final opinion of the Covid inquiry (CPI), senator Renan Calheiros (MDB-AL) was accused of leaking parts of the document. A wing of senators is now acting to convince him to remove divergent parts of the text. If the rapporteur does not yield, congressmen consider presenting amendments. There was an overall discomfort with Renan in the so-called G7, the majority of the CPI's group of seven senators. The rapporteur was even called a traitor on suspicion of having made a political move to expose excerpts of the text and corner colleagues who wanted to change them.
The president of the CPI, Omar Aziz (PSD-AM), does not want any further conversations behind closed doors about the report and stated this Monday (18) that Renan must keep "everything that was leaked". Another wing, however, is still seeking consensus. Even without G7 meetings planned, senators want to talk individually with Renan.
