Woman Arrested after Cursing Bolsonaro

Federal police files offense in Resende (RJ) and releases the woman, who will have to appear in court

Police arrested a 30-year-old woman and took her to the police station after cursing President Jair Bolsonaro from the side of Dutra highway on Saturday (27), in Resende (RJ). Bolsonaro was in the city to participate in the graduation ceremony of the cadets of the Military Academy of Agulhas Negras. Specialists consulted by Folha considered the arrest carried out by the police to be abnormal and abusive.

Before the graduation, the president was with his entourage at Dutra, near Aman, and waving at vehicles traveling along the highway that links São Paulo to Rio, the two most populous cities in the country, when the woman cursed him. The woman, who was a passenger in a car and did not have her name revealed, "spouted profanity and curses," according to police. The car was approached by the Federal Highway Police.

At the site, she was sent to the Federal Police team that was at Dutra and, from there, was taken to the PF police station in Volta Redonda (RJ), about 50 kilometers away, for the registration of a detailed term for the crime of defamation. The woman was never arrested and was released after having made a commitment that she will appear in court. The penalty for the crime of slander, if convicted, is up to three years of imprisonment and a fine, according to article 140 of the Penal Code, but, in the case of being committed against the President of the Republic, it is increased by one third.
