The writer Olavo de Carvalho, a Bolsonarista guru, died on Monday night at the age of 74, in the Richmond, Virginia region (USA), where he was hospitalized.
His family announced his death on the official social media profiles of the writer.
He was diagnosed with Covid-19 on January 15, according to administrators of the Telegram group that brings together the followers of the Bolsonarist ideologue. The cause of death was not reported.
Born in Campinas (SP) in 1947, Olavo de Carvalho became interested in philosophy as an adolescent. He never had a formal academic career, which led to him being accused by detractors throughout his life of not deserving to be called a philosopher.
The conservative wave that led to the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff in 2016 and the election of Bolsonaro two years later defined Olavo as its ideological beacon.
