Bolsonaro Participates in Protests against the Supreme Court and Lula Speaks at An Event Held by Unions

Thus, by ignoring the appeal of allies, it keeps tensions high with the Judiciary

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) participated this Sunday (1st), Labor Day, in two protests against the Federal Supreme Court (STF). A day earlier, Bolsonaro had encouraged the participation of protesters.

Thus, by ignoring the appeal of allies, it keeps tensions high with the Judiciary. These tensions began with conviction of deputy Daniel Silveira (PTB-RJ) by the court to 8 years and 9 months in prison.

The protests were called in defense of Silveira, who benefited from an individual pardon from Bolsonaro given hours after the Supreme Court judgement. The Bolsonarist deputy participated in the protests in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

This May 1, in the morning, Bolsonaro went to the event against the Supreme Court on the Esplanada dos Ministérios, in Brasília. There, he greeted those present. In the afternoon, he went live on video at the protest on Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo, where allies promoted attacks on the Supreme Court and the Superior Electoral Court.

Last year on September 7 Bolsonaro urged disobedience to the judiciary from a sound car on Avenida Paulist. He also cursed Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of investigations that target the president and his allies.

Lula in SP

The central unions promoted an empty event on May 1 this Sunday in São Paulo, and the speeches of the participants were marked by requests to vote for former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), who spoke at the end and maintained the tone of campaign during his speech to the few present.

Lula was welcomed on stage by union leaders who led choruses of "hello, olê, olê, olá, Lula, Lula" and right at the beginning of his speech, he suggested he was worried about possible punishment by the Electoral Justice for anticipated propaganda.

The electoral law says that there can be no explicit request to vote before the start of the campaign, which will only occur on August 16th. But, in practice, Justice has been tolerant and with rare punishments for those who disrespect the rule.

"Soon, soon everything will be formalized and we will wake up on a beautiful day in October, thanking God and thanking freedom. And we will thank you because freedom has finally spread its wings over the Brazilian people, and we will once again have a civilized country," said Lula.
