Bolsonaro Sends Words of Comfort to Family Members of Bruno and Dom after Downplaying Case

According to federal police, fisherman confessed to murdering indigenous expert and journalist in Vale do Javari

After saying that Bruno Pereira and Dom Phillips were on an "unrecommended adventure" through Vale do Javari, President Jair Bolsonaro shared comforts to the family of the indigenist and the British journalist.

"Our condolences to the families and may God comfort everyone's hearts," he wrote on Twitter, responding to a note of sorrow for the death of the duo published by Funai (Fundação Nacional do Índio).

This was Bolsonaro's first statement since the Federal Police announced that the fisherman known as Pelado confessed to murdering Bruno and Dom.

Earlier, Bolsonaro played down the disappearance of the two in the Amazon. "Two people just on a boat, in a region like that, completely wild, is an adventure that is not recommended to do. Anything can happen," he said on Tuesday (7), two days after the pair disappeared.

Bruno, 41, was one of the main figures of the indigenist movement in Brazil. Dom, 57, had lived in Brazil for more than ten years and had covered several areas in the Amazon.
