Datafolha: 7 out of 10 Reject The Idea that Guns Bring more Security

According to a survey, 69% of Brazilians disagree with the phrase 'armed people will never be enslaved,' repeated by Bolsonaro

Most Brazilians reject President Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) ideas about guns in the country. According to a Datafolha survey, 7 out of 10 people surveyed, on average, oppose policies that favor the arming of the population. This is the idea that more armed people make society safer and also a phrase from the president: "The armed people will never be enslaved."

According to the survey, 72% disagreed with the phrase "society would be safer if people carried guns to protect themselves from violence." The percentage of disagreement is higher among women (78%), among people who declare themselves to be black (78%), and among those with a lower income range, up to two minimum wages (75%).

Among the groups that agree with this relationship between firearm possession and greater protection against violence are male Brazilians (32%), those from the North region (33%), and with a family income of more than ten minimum wages (37% ).

The survey included 2,556 people from 181 municipalities on May 25 and 26. The margin of error is plus or minus two percentage points.
