Firefighters Find Backpack of Missing Journalist and Indigenous Expert

Belongings were found tied up in a region that had been isolated by the PF for searches

Firefighters found this Sunday (12) a backpack and personal belongings belonging to indigenist Bruno Pereira and journalist Dom Phillips, missing since June 5 in the Vale do Javari region (AM).

The material found was submerged in an area on the banks of the Itaquaí River, where the search for the two is concentrated.

On Sunday night, the Federal Police confirmed that the objects belong to Pereira and Phillips. The agency said in a statement that Pereira's health card, flip-flops, pants and a pair of boots, also belonging to the indigenist, were found. Boots and a backpack of the British journalist were also found, as well as personal clothes.

Pereira and Phillips traveled along the Itaquaí River to the city on the day of the disappearance, but did not reach their destination.

The articles of the two were found by firefighter divers. According to them, the backpack was tied to a tree submerged in the igapó — an area of ​​forest flooded with water, on the bank of the river. She was handed over to the Federal Police.
