Majority of Federal Sexual Harassment Investigations Go Unpunished

Two-thirds of lawsuits go without sanction, points out CGU

Two out of three investigations into sexual harassment in the federal public administration ended without any punishment, according to data from the Federal Comptroller General provided at the request of Folha.

From 2008 to June 2022, 905 cases were initiated, of which 633 were completed.

Of those finalized, 432 did not result in a sanction. The others generated a warning (41), suspension (90) or dismissal (95) of the aggressor.

The sum of penalties is greater than the total number of registered cases because in some of them there was more than one public agent involved.

The CGU survey includes processes initiated within the scope of direct administration, autarchies and foundations, which includes ministries, regulatory agencies and federal universities.

Public companies, such as Caixa Econômica, the scene of accusations of sexual and moral harassment made by employees against the now ex-president of the institution Pedro Guimarães, are not included.
