Bolsonaro Reinforces Conservative Agenda

Document delivered to Superior Electoral Court mentions family 67 times and provides vague measures for a possible second term

President Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) government plan for this year’s elections sets aside campaign promises and focuses on defending his administration at Palácio do Planalto ( the government's headquarters) for the past three and a half years, in addition to reinforcing the president’s conservative agenda.

In the document filed with the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), entitled "For the Good of Brazil" —the campaign slogan and name of the coalition — the term family appears 67 times.

In addition, the text places freedom, a recurring subject in presidential speeches, as a central precept. The theme occupies the entire first chapter of the document, for example.

Freedom is presented as "a concept dear to all who believe in the family, in democracy, in economic freedom, in the right to property, in the right to life of the unborn, in the possibility of expressing their opinions and leading their lives in accordance with values and purposes".

Instead of proposals, the text seeks to present programs that are already underway in the government — and demonstrate that the next administration would represent their continuity.
