São Paulo

Chief Justice of the TSE (Supreme Electoral Court), Alexandre de Moraes, had a meeting this Wednesday (19) with representatives of the main social media platforms. At the meeting, he said that the platforms' performance was reasonably good in the first round, but that in this second round the fake news situation is disastrous.

Moraes also stated that platforms take too long to remove content and pressed for platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Kwai not to take more than four to five hours to remove videos after court complaints.

With faster removal, it would be possible to reduce the virality of these contents in messaging applications.

It was also stated at the meeting that the Supreme Electoral Court will vote this Thursday (20) on a resolution that expands the power of the police to act ex officio against electoral misinformation and also prohibit paid advertising on the internet from 48 hours before to 24 hours after the voting period.
