Youth Employment Decree also Includes Labor Reform Measures

Text allows work on Sundays and holidays and changes supervision rules

The provisional measure (MP) issued by President Jair Bolsonaro as justification for boosting youth job creation also contains several items that modify labor law for employees of all ages.

While the new rules for young people last two years, the remaining changes will be permanent. The MP is already in force and needs to be approved by Congress within 120 days not to expire.

The new MP also includes items such as working on Sundays for all categories, opening bank branches on Saturdays, and new enforcement rules. These changes were cut from the Economic Freedom MP, but rescued with this new MP.

For Ricardo Calcini, professor of labor law at FMU, the provisional measure introduces changes even more significant than those of the Law on Economic Freedom, which contained excerpts that were called mini-reform labor.

He says the government measure represents a step in the labor reform, which is being sliced up.
