Economy Minister Paulo Guedes said on Monday (23) that, from the point of view of the Brazilian government, there will be no extension of emergency aid to 2021. According to him, the coronavirus pandemic is subsiding in the country, and the economy is reviving.
Guedes stated in a videoconference that the benefit paid to informal workers could have lasted up to one year if the value of the installments was lower, at R$ 200, as the economic team initially proposed.
Recognizing that R$ 600 and the extension with installments of R$ 300 until December had government support, he said that the program ended up demanding many resources from the National Treasury.
The minister also said that there is political pressure for another renewal of assistance. He considered that the Executive's actions would be based on evidence, and the government will know how to react in an eventual emergency situation, which is not in the plans at the moment.
