Senate Approves Energy Sector Bill that Will Reduce Costs for Consumers

Measure sets a limit for subsidies for renewable energy sources

The Senate approved this Thursday (4) a provisional measure in the energy sector that would reduce costs for consumers, mainly for residents in the northern regions of the country.

The measure also establishes a limit on subsidies for renewable energy sources - such as solar and wind energy - and also opens the way for the completion of the Angra 3 nuclear power plant project.

The rapporteur Marcos Rogério (DEM-RO) promoted only four editorial changes in the text - which does not change its merit - in relation to the text that had already been approved by the House of Representatives. The proposal was approved symbolically by the Senate.

If it had been rejected by senators and forwarded to Congress, the measure would have been in danger of expiring on Tuesday (9).
