President Jair Bolsonaro's decision to recreate the Ministry of Labor and Welfare should, in the opinion of technicians at the ministry, speed up projects related to the digital economy.
Before, labor and social security matters were handled by a secretariat within the structure of the Ministry of Economy, headed by Paulo Guedes.
Onyx Lorenzoni will lead the new ministry, having left the post of Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic. The team will focus, for example, on service providers for mobile applications.
One of the main issues will be the regulation of labor relations generated by digitization, such as the iFood and Quinto Andar applications.
The model occupies a growing share of the market and represents the possibility of flexible income and easier access for unemployed people. The government is discussing ways to make them formal workers.
With the status of ministry, the expectation is that discussions will take place between ministers Onyx and Guedes; Onyx will also be able to negotiate directly with Bolsonaro.
The measures are subject to congressional approval.
