'We'll Leave Together,' Says Bolsonaro Alongside Economy Minister Guedes

Minister says reforms will offset spending against debt ceiling

After a tumultuous week in the economic sector caused by planned spending against Brazil's debt ceiling, resulting in several members of the economic team leaving, President Jair Bolsonaro (no party) said this Sunday (24) that he will not interfere in prices and that it will seek to provide security for the market.

The president also sought to dispel rumors of Guedes' departure from the government, saying that both would "leave together." He sat an event on the outskirts of Brasília with the minister. In the end, the two gave interviews to journalists to discuss economic issues.

The president took the opportunity to praise Guedes' work after last week's turmoil. He said the minister did an exceptional job in 2019 and "even better" in 2020. When Guedes was asked whether he would remain in government, Bolsonaro anticipated and replied: "We'll leave together, up ahead. You can be sure of that."
