Half Are in Favor of Racial Quotas in Universities; 34% Are Against, Says Datafolha

Support is greater among those who have children in private schools; Quotas will likely be revised this year

Half of the population favors racial quotas in public universities, Datafolha shows. Support is higher, 60%, among people with children in private schools - who, theoretically, would be passed over with the action.

The younger, more educated, and higher income the person, the greater their support is for racial quotas in universities. More than 34% oppose affirmative action. Another 3% were indifferent, and 12% said they did not know how to respond.

Datafolha was created in partnership with Cesop-Unicamp under the coordination of Cenpec — non-profit organizations that work in public education and favor social quotas in public universities.

The survey, carried out in March but released now, addresses several educational agendas. The project surveyed 2,090 people aged 16 and over in 130 municipalities. The margin of error is plus or minus two percentage points.
