Demographic Census Begins to Interview Population after Two Years of Delay

IBGE teams have begun visits to 75 million households across Brazil

After two years of delay and the threat of a statistical blackout in the country, the Demographic Census begins to reach Brazilian homes. The reason is the beginning of the survey interviews, under the responsibility of the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics).

By October, the agency's expectation is to have visited 75 million households across Brazil – from the outskirts, riverside locations, and indigenous communities to luxury homes and gated communities.

The preliminary results of the count should be released by the end of this year, according to the IBGE forecast. Detailed data tends to be released from 2023 onwards.
The Census, which is usually carried out every ten years, is considered to be the most detailed research on the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of the population.

The most recent edition took place in 2010. The new survey should've been in 2020, but it was postponed due to the restrictions generated by the beginning of the Covid pandemic. In 2021, the survey was halted for the second time. At the time, what made the work impossible was a cut in the budget provided by the government.
