FROM SÃO PAULO
Pearl Jam's vocalist Eddie Vedder showed he is angry after learning that the embankment in Mariana (MG) broke, destroying the homes of thousands of people.
During a concert in Belo Horizonte (MG) on Friday, November 20, Vedder called for justice and for those responsible for mining company Samarco to be punished for the disaster.
The band also promised to donate the revenues from the concert that night to the victims.
Reading from a paper with a speech in Portuguese, Vedder attacked companies that exploit the environment.
"While these major companies use the land at their own will seeking only profit, without any respect for the environment, accidents take people's lives and destroy rivers. And still they manage to make a profit," Vedder protested.
"We hope they are punished, severely punished and punished more and more so that they never forget the sad disaster caused by them," he said.
