Brazil Confirms 34 Cases of Coronavirus

On Monday (9), the Ministry of Health changed the protocol to identify new cases

Brazil has 34 confirmed cases of infection with the new coronavirus. The data, released on Tuesday (10), are from a platform created by the Ministry of Health.

Until this Tuesday (9), there were 25 cases in the country. Among the new confirmations, five were in Rio de Janeiro, three in São Paulo and one in Rio Grande do Sul.

With the update, there are already seven states with confirmed cases: São Paulo (19), Rio de Janeiro (8), Bahia (2), Rio Grande do Sul (1), Espírito Santo (1), Minas Gerais (1) and Alagoas (1). There are also two confirmed cases in the Federal District.

In Rio Grande do Sul, a 60-year-old man who lives in the city of Campo Bom is the first person to be diagnosed with covid-19. He traveled to Milan, Italy, between 16 and 23 February and started having symptoms like fever and cough on 29 February. The next day, he sought care at a private clinic.

As he had mild symptoms, he was told to stay at home in isolation. Then, it started to be monitored by epidemiological surveillance.

According to the ministry, of the 34 confirmed cases, 29 are from patients who have traveled to countries where there is transmission, especially European countries, such as Italy, the second country with the most cases of covid-19.
