Brasília

The number of deaths in BraZil due to Covid-19 rose to 46 on Tuesday (24), according to the Ministry of Health. It is the biggest jump in a single day: 12. The first death was registered on the 17th of this month.

As of this Monday (23), there were 34 dead, an increase of nine new deaths compared to Sunday, when there were 25.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis, the country has already added 2,201 confirmations of the new disease. Until Monday, there were 1,891 cases registered in Brazil.

Among the dead, 40 are in São Paulo and 6 in Rio de Janeiro. The lethality rate in SP reaches 4.9% of confirmed cases. The state leads the number of confirmations, with 810.

The Ministry does not report the number of cases under investigation because it considers that the entire country is in community transmission --- that is, when it is not possible to identify the origin of the virus, and says that, therefore, anyone with flu-like symptoms is a suspicious case.

MORE TESTS

In view of the advancement of the coronavirus, the Ministry of Health will expand the total of tests available for diagnosis to 22.9 million.

The government has been under pressure to expand the testing of possible Covid-19 cases. The current number of tests already distributed to state laboratories is 30 thousand, an amount considered insufficient.

In the past few days, the portfolio has been progressively expanding the offer of tests to the population.
