Coronavirus Deaths in Brazil Rise to 159; Country has 4,579 Confirmed Cases

Within 24 hours, the Ministry of Health recorded 23 new deaths from Covid-19, the highest number in one day

The number of deaths from the novel coronavirus in Brazil rose to 159 on Monday (30), according to data from the Ministry of Health.

In 24 hours, the Ministry of Health registered 23 deaths due to Covid-19, the biggest increase in just one day. On Sunday, there were 136 deaths, and the country had recorded, for the second consecutive day, 22 deaths in 24 hours.

Now, Brazil has a total of 4,579 confirmed cases of the disease, according to data from the Ministry of Health platform, updated at 4:50 pm on Monday (30). The number represented a jump of 7.6% compared to Sunday when 4,256 infections were counted.

The state of São Paulo has the highest number of infected people, 1,517 cases, followed by Rio de Janeiro (657), Ceará (372), Federal District (312) and Minas Gerais (261). The Southeast region, therefore, concentrates 55% of the cases. The Northeast has 17%, the South, 13%, the Midwest, 9%, and the North, 6% of the cases.

Fifteen states, from all regions of the country, already registered deaths from the coronavirus. The highest volumes are in São Paulo (113 deaths), Rio de Janeiro (18), Pernambuco (5), Ceará (5), Paraná (3), Piauí (3) and Rio Grande Grande do Sul (3).

The states of Amazonas, Bahia, Federal District, Goiás, Maranhão, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Norte and Santa Catarina each register one death.
