Brazil Breaks Record with 204 New Coronavirus Deaths in 24 Hours

Brazil recorded 204 new deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours and broke a new daily record, according to data from the Ministry of Health released on Tuesday (14). Altogether in the country, there are 1,532 deaths.

The previous day, there were 105 new deaths. Over the weekend, the number of new daily deaths was below one hundred. Still, the Ministry of Health itself clarifies that the data collected on Saturdays and Sundays tend to be inaccurate, as health teams in the states work in small numbers.

The latest death record had been set on April 9, when there were 141 confirmed new deaths.

The portfolio's balance also points to 25,262 confirmed cases of the disease, an increase of 8% in one day. Last week, the country surpassed the 20,000 confirmed cases of Covid-19.

The ministry, however, has reported that the actual number of cases tends to be higher since only patients admitted to hospitals are tested, and cases are waiting to be confirmed.

Folha's report showed that primary care teams in several cities and states state that underreporting to the Ministry of Health of suspected cases has been gigantic.
