Brazil Breaks Record with More than 400 Deaths from Coronavirus in 24 hours; Total Passes 3,000

First death was confirmed just over a month ago, on March 17

Brasília

Brazil recorded 407 new deaths from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, a record number and an increase of 14%, according to the Ministry of Health. Until then, the highest number of deaths was 217 on April 17.

The total number of deaths by Covid-19 in the country increased from 3,000 this Thursday (23). In all, since March 17, when the first death by Covid-19 was confirmed in the country, 3,313 deaths were registered.

The country has 49,492 confirmed cases of Covid-19 — 3,735 new cases in one day.

The previous day, the Ministry of Health had reported 165 new deaths (and a total of 2,906 deaths) and more than 2,600 new confirmed cases (a total of 45,757 cases). The Ministry of Health itself recognizes, however, that the bulletins released after holidays and weekends tend to have lower numbers than other days because health teams in the states work with reduced numbers and, therefore, states carry out fewer tests.

Also, the portfolio has reported that the actual number of cases tends to be higher since only patients admitted to hospitals are tested, and some cases are waiting to be confirmed.
