Brazil recorded 166 new deaths from the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours, an increase of 6.4%, according to data from the Ministry of Health released on Tuesday (21). In total, there are 2,741 deaths by Covid-19 in the country.

There are 43,079 confirmed cases of the disease. In the previous day, the country passed 40 thousand cases—the number doubled in just nine days.

The ministry, however, has reported that the actual number of cases tends to be higher, since only patients admitted to hospitals are tested and there are cases that are waiting to be confirmed.

The data in the folder show that the state of São Paulo leads in number of cases. Altogether, there are 15,385 cases of the disease and 1,093 deaths.

The second state most affected by the new coronavirus is Rio de Janeiro, with 5,306 registered cases and 461 deaths.

After São Paulo and Rio, the states with the most confirmed cases are Ceará, with 3,716 records, Pernambuco, with 2,908, and Amazonas, with 2,270.

In the past few days, the ministry of health has identified Amazonas, Amapá, Roraima, Ceará and São Paulo as the states with the highest incidence of the disease, a classification that points to the total number of cases by the population.

The list changes when analyzing the number of deaths. In this case, after São Paulo and Rio, the largest volume of confirmed deaths occurs in Pernambuco (260), Ceará (215), and Amazonas (193).
