The number of deaths from the novel coronavirus in Brazil rose to 201 this Tuesday (31), according to data from the Ministry of Health. The record of 42 deaths in just one day is the largest so far. On Monday, there were 159 reported deaths.
In all, Brazil has 5,717 confirmed cases of the disease. The number represents a 25% jump over the previous day when there were 4,579.
However, Health Minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta said on Monday (30) that there is underreporting in the country and that the real number of cases is higher.
The state of São Paulo has the largest number of confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 2,239 records. It is followed by Rio de Janeiro (708), Ceará (390), and Distrito Federal (332).
The Southeast region, therefore, concentrates 60% of the cases. The Northeast has 15%, the South, 12%, the Midwest, 8%, and the North, 5% of the cases.
According to the balance sheet, 18 states already have deaths from COVID-19. The largest number occurs in São Paulo, with 136 already confirmed, followed by Rio de Janeiro, with 23.
