Country registers 38,654 people infected with Covid-19, with evidence of underreporting

With 115 new cases in the last 24 hours, the number of deaths from the novel coronavirus reached 2,462 in Brazil. The Ministry of Health released the data on Sunday (19). In all, there are 38,654 confirmed people from Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The lethality rate of the novel coronavirus, in relation to the total number of cases, remained at 6.4%. On Saturday, there were 36,599 reported cases and 2,347 deaths. The data was updated on the platform at 17h.

The actual number of cases, however, tends to be higher, say technicians from the Ministry of Health, that only patients admitted to hospitals undergo tests, and many cases still await confirmation.

The country registered the first state to have more than a thousand deaths caused by the pandemic. São Paulo has had 14,267 cases and now has 1,015 deaths. On Saturday, there were 991 deaths from the disease and 13,894 confirmed cases.

Rio de Janeiro is the second state with the most cases and deaths due to Covid-19. There are 402 deaths and 4,765 with a positive test for Covid-19. Regarding the number of fatalities, they appear in the sequence Pernambuco, with 216, Ceará, with 186 and Amazonas, with 182.

The four states also have the highest number of registered cases. Ceará, with 3,252, Pernambuco, 2,459, and Amazonas, 2,044, appear next.
