Brazil Registers 888 New Deaths from Coronavirus; Total Number of Deaths Exceeds 18 thousand

Country has 291,579 confirmed cases, according to data from the Ministry of Health

A day after passing the milestone of 1,000 daily deaths, Brazil recorded 888 new deaths from coronavirus and 19,951 new cases in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Ministry of Health. It is the second-largest daily record of deaths after the record of 1,179. Another 3,483 deaths are under investigation.

With 18,859 deaths in total and 291,579 confirmed cases, the country remains the third with more cases. The day before yesterday, Brazil surpassed the United Kingdom, which had 244 thousand cases and today has 249 thousand cases.

The two countries ahead of Brazil in the number of cases are the USA (about 1.5 million) and Russia (308 thousand), according to Johns Hopkins University (USA), which monitors data from the Covid-19 pandemic. Over the weekend, Brazil overtook Spain (232 thousand cases) and Italy (227 thousand).

The five states most affected by the new coronavirus continue to concentrate more than half of the total deaths. São Paulo now has 5,363 victims due to Covid-19. Rio de Janeiro appears next, with 3,237. The other states with the highest number of deaths are Ceará (1,900), Pernambuco (1,834) and Pará (1,633).

The total number of deaths corresponds to 6.5% of the total confirmed cases of coronavirus.
