Brazil recorded 1,364 new deaths by Covid-19 and 40,131 new cases of the disease, this Tuesday (23). The country now has 52,771 deaths from the new coronavirus 1,151,479 cases of infection by Sars-CoV-2.

The data on deaths and cases of Covid-19 comes from an unprecedented collaboration between Folha, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo, G1, and UOL to gather and report numbers on the new coronavirus, which are collected directly with the state secretaries of health. The balance is closed daily at 8 pm.

Tuesday's death is the second-highest on record, considering data from the Ministry of Health and the consortium of media outlets. Only on June 4, there was a higher number of deaths by Covid-19, with 1,473 deaths recorded by the Ministry of Health, equivalent to about more than one death per minute.

São Paulo still leads the number of deaths among the states and, this Tuesday, it broke the record of deaths, with a record of 434 in 24 hours. The state has surpassed 13 thousand deaths and has 229,475 registered cases.

With 220 new deaths, Rio de Janeiro was the second state with the highest number of deaths in the last 24 hours. Rio already has 9,153 deaths by Covid-19 and 100,869 cases.
