Brazil recorded 1,261 new deaths by Covid-19 and 39,705 cases, this Wednesday (15). As a result, the country reached 75,523 deaths and 1,970,909 cases of the disease. Brazil should reach 2 million cases this Thursday (16), given the number of infections confirmed daily (almost always exceeding 30 thousand, even reaching 40 thousand).

The data comes from an unprecedented collaboration between media outlets Folha, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo, G1, and UOL to gather and disseminate the numbers related to the pandemic of the new coronavirus.

Brazil has a rate of about 36.1 deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants. The United States, which has the highest absolute number of deaths, and the United Kingdom, both ahead of Brazil in the pandemic (that is, they started to suffer from the problem before), have 42 and 67.9 deaths for every 100 thousand inhabitants, respectively.

In Argentina, where the pandemic landed nine days later than in Brazil and which followed a much stricter quarantine, the rate is 4.5 deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants.

Data released by the Ministry of Health on Wednesday (15) show 39,924 cases, and 1,233 deaths from Covid-19 confirmed in Brazil in the last 24 hours. The total number of deaths reaches 75,366 and 1,966,748 infections.
