Brazil Reaches 90 thousand Deaths by Covid-19

Country recorded 1,554 deaths and 70,869 cases; jump is related to the accumulation of late notifications from São Paulo

Brazil reached 90,188 deaths from Covid-19. There were 1,554 new deaths and 70,869 cases of the disease, this Wednesday (29). The total number of infections confirmed by Sars-CoV-2 is already 2,555,518.

The highest number of deaths ever recorded in the pandemic is attributed to the fact that São Paulo, due to technical problems, did not send its data on Tuesday (28). Thus, this number includes two days of deaths in the state of São Paulo, which registered 713 deaths.

The data comes from an unprecedented collaboration between the news media Folha, UOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo, and G1 to gather and disclose the numbers related to the pandemic of the new coronavirus. The information is collected directly from the state Health Departments.

Brazil has a rate of about 43.1 deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants. The United States, which has the highest absolute number of deaths, and the United Kingdom, both ahead of Brazil in the pandemic (that is, they started to suffer from the problem before), have 45.9 and 69.3 deaths for every 100 thousand inhabitants, respectively.
