Locals Ignore Restrictions and Pack Beaches in Rio de Janeiro

So far, 9,566 people have died from Covid-19 in the city

This Sunday (30), when the thermometers in Rio de Janeiro reached 35 ° C, the city's beaches were packed with sunbathers.

Cariocas ignored the municipal guidelines, which ban sunbathers on the sand. There was intense movement at Recreio dos Bandeirantes Beach, west of Rio.

On August 10, Mayor Marcelo Crivella announced that bathers would have to reserve spaces in the sand of the beaches by a digital app to avoid large gatherings during the pandemic. The measure, however, is being reassessed by the city.

To date, 9,566 people have died from Covid-19 in the city of Rio de Janeiro, which adds up to 89,434 cases. Brazil has 120,896 dead and more than 3.86 million people who have already been infected.
