Brazil is the only country in the world where fake news about chloroquine, ivermectin, and azithromycin continue to circulate as cures for Covid-19. Several scientific studies have denied the effectiveness of these drugs.

This is shown by the "Political (self) isolation" survey carried out by LAUT, INCT.DD and the Atlantic Council's digital forensic research laboratory based on checks of about 8,600 fake content made by 100 agencies in 134 countries.

Unlike most nations, only in Brazil, the United States, and India are internal political disputes the main driver for disinformation about the pandemic.

There is also the commercial reason in India, as the country is a major producer and exporter of chloroquine.

In Brazil and the USA, the reason is political. The presidents of the two countries, Jair Bolsonaro and Donald Trump, and several supporters and members of the governments, took over the drugs and helped spread the misinformation.
