Pazuello Tells Supreme Court that Vaccination against Covid Will Start 5 Days after Anvisa Authorization

Health Ministry predicts it will take 16 months for the entire population to be vaccinated against coronavirus

Brasília

The Ministry of Health informed Supreme Court on Tuesday (15) that it will distribute the vaccine against Covid-19 to the states within five days after the product is authorized by Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency).

The ministry also predicts that the vaccination of the entire population may take 16 months.

The document, signed by Minister Eduardo Pazuello, states that the federal government should only pass on vaccines to the states and that the states should distribute the vaccine to the municipalities.

The government provided this information only after it sent a vaccination plan to the Supreme Court. The supreme court justice presiding over the case, Ricardo Lewandowski, demanded dates for the start and end of the population's immunization.

However, the response from the Ministry of Health does not mention a date for the start of the campaign. The ministry assesses that it is impossible to set a deadline before Anvisa's approval and that setting an estimate based on the regulatory agency's decision was the possible alternative to respond to the Supreme Court.
