Brazil Is Broken and I Can't Do Anything, Says Bolsonaro

In conversation with his supporters, the president also states that the pandemic has been 'over fueled by the media'

Brasília

President Jair Bolsonaro (no party) said on Tuesday (5) that Brazil is broken and that he cannot do anything. He also said that the Covid-19 pandemic has been "over fueled by the media".

"Chief, Brazil is broken, and I can’t do anything. I wanted to alter the Income Tax table, then we had this virus, over fueled by this media that we have. This characterless media. It is a non-stop job of trying to wear us out, to get us out of here and attend to the shady interests of the media ", said the president to a group of supporters outside Palácio da Alvorada.

The president's statements have clashed with the positions publicly presented by his economic team, who has been emphasizing that the country's economic activity is in full recovery, which is expected to bring positive results for tax collection.

Members of the Ministry of Economy have also conveyed confidence that it will be possible to move forward with the structural reform agenda in the Congress, which could give a further boost to government accounts and expand the margin of the budget for spending on investments and social programs.
