One Year Ago, Brazil Confirmed Its First Case of The Coronavirus

As the number of daily deaths on the planet from the disease falls, the country faces a new peak

As countries vaccinate more, they are seeing significant declines in deaths from Covid-19. But at the moment, this does not necessarily represent cause and effect. Meanwhile, in Brazil, a year after the first officially registered case of the disease, the country is seeing new growth in Sars-CoV-2. The country has reached the worst moment in the pandemic.

On Wednesday (24), Brazil completed 35 consecutive days with a moving average of deaths above 1,000. On the same day, the country surpassed 250,000 lives claimed by Covid and recorded the highest moving average of deaths in the entire pandemic at 1,127.

But since November, the rate has started to show growth trends. At the time, specialists already pointed out the disease's spread and the risk that the end-of-year parties represented.

The number of deaths in the last two weeks in Brazil grew by more than 2%, representing a situation of stability, however, at a high level - a scenario similar to what persisted in the middle of last year.
