The escalation of the pandemic in Brazil reached a bloody level this Tuesday (23). There were 3,158 deaths from Covid-19 recorded within 24 hours.

A further 84,996 cases were recorded. Thus, Brazil has reached 298,843 deaths and 12,136,615 infections since February 2020, when Sars-CoV-2 was first detected in the country.

Recent figures and successive records show that the trend is for the pandemic to accelerate at a pace unmatched in the world.

Only the United States has reached such a high daily death rate from Covid, having recorded 4,470 deaths on January 11 this year, according to Johns Hopkins University.

The Brazilian data are those obtained by the press consortium comprising Folha, UOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, G1 and O Globo.

The WHO (World Health Organization) has adopted a direct tone and is concerned with the Brazilian situation.
