With the increase in the number of deaths from coronavirus in the country, President Jair Bolsonaro (no party) met this Monday morning (8) with Pfizer's global CEO, Albert Bourla. After the meeting, Minister Paulo Guedes (Economy) announced that Brazil will buy 5 million doses of the pharmaceutical for the first half of this year.
According to the latest forecast released by the government, Brazil would receive 2 million doses in May and another 7 in June, totaling 9 million by the end of the semester and around 100m by the end of the year. Now, according to Guedes, the 5 million doses foreseen for the second semester would be distributed between May and June, which would increase the quantity of vaccines made available in the first semester to 14 million.
"The great war, because the economy and health go together, is to anticipate mass vaccination. We have practically closed the deal," said Guedes after the meeting.
