The executive secretary of the Ministry of Health, Rodrigo Cruz, said this Monday (26) that it is considering reducing the recommended interval for the application of the second dose of Pfizer and that the ministry is deciding when to apply the change. With this measure, the interval should change from about three months to 21 days.
According to him, the ministry will follow the directions of Pfizer and representatives of health secretaries to decide the execution date.
The Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, said they extended the time between the doses in order to apply more first doses.
With the largest number of doses of Pfizer arriving in the country, it is now possible to reduce the interval to 21 days, as recommended in the package insert for the immunizing agent.
On the other hand, the minister said that it is not yet possible to reduce the AstraZeneca interval, currently 90 days, because there is no “safety scientific evidence” that it will bring greater effectiveness in the vaccination program.
Queiroga also stated that the ministry is considering the possibility of booster doses. The minister also said that “soon, soon,” Brazilians will no longer need to wear masks.
"As the number of deaths decreases and we advance in the vaccination campaign, soon we won't need a mask anymore,” he said.
