Brazil Will Require A 5-Day Quarantine for Unvaccinated Travelers

This measure, which contradicts Bolsonaro, affects those who have a negative test result but cannot prove immunization

Brasília

The Brazilian government will require five days of quarantine for travelers who come to the country and cannot prove that they have taken a vaccine against Covid, announced ministers Marcelo Queiroga (Health) and Ciro Nogueira (Casa Civil).

In addition to proof of immunization, it will be necessary to present the negative result of a test to detect coronaviruses performed up to 72 hours before.

It is the first comprehensive measure by Jair Bolsonaro's management of travelers since the more transmissible omicron variant was identified.

Bolsonaro, who has downplayed the pandemic since its inception, is reluctant to adopt restrictions and demand a vaccination passport in the country, which is contested by ANVISA. Hours before the announcement, he compared the document to a collar.

The president complained about being treated as the only head of state who acted differently and tried to explain why he promoted the ineffective hydroxychloroquine: "I studied, I followed, I called ambassadors, doctors."
