Party leader confirms that the president-elect will attend the UN conference on climate change

São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro

President-elect Lula (PT) will attend COP27, the UN (United Nations) conference on climate change, together with a delegation of governors from Amazonia. Confirmation of the trip was given this Tuesday (1st) by Gleisi Hoffmann, president of the PT.

Lula was invited to travel to the event which will take place in Egypt by the re-elected governor of Pará Helder Barbalho (MDB). The invitation was revealed in an article by the newspaper Valor Econômico on Monday (31).

The governor of Pará spoke with the president-elect during the weekend, before the runoff. Earlier this week, there was new communication between Lula's and Barbalho's teams to set schedule details.

COP27 will take place starting next Sunday (6th) in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. The meeting runs until the 18th — the beginning of the conferences is usually attended by heads of state and government. The date of Lula's departure has yet to be defined, according to other commitments.

The president of Egypt, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, after congratulating Lula on his victory in the election, in a note, also invited him to participate in COP27.
