Facebook Sees Violence on Its Website but Doesn't Prioritize Brazil

Documents obtained by Folha show concern with fake news and violence in the country

An internal Facebook report sent to US authorities by former employee Frances Haugen recommends investigating the violent content circulating on its platform and on WhatsApp.

The documents, to which Folha had access, are part of the Facebook Papers.

The 2020 memo says that misinformation, inflammatory political discourse and child exploitation are seen as bigger problems on Facebook than on other platforms in Brazil, but suggests keeping its focus on the US and UK.

Sought out, the company claimed to invest in user security.
