President Jair Bolsonaro's visit to Russia, scheduled to begin on Monday (14), sends the wrong signal to the world: that using military threats to resolve disputes is tolerable.
The assessment is by Melvyn Levitsky, former US Ambassador to Brazil (1994-1998) who also worked at the US Embassy in Moscow.
"The trip makes no sense in terms of Brazil's position on international law. The country has a reputation for being very careful about respecting international rules."
Levitsky, 83, was a diplomat for 35 years and is now a professor at the University of Michigan.
