FROM SÃO PAULO
At least so far, the mark of the final phase of the presidential election is a rampant ascension of President Dilma Rousseff (PT) while her main rival, Marina Silva (PSB), has declined sharply.
Propelled by more diligent election marketing than that of her adversaries, President Rousseff has improved her performance in the past month. And the exact opposite has been occurring to Silva in the last 20 days.
In the Datafolha survey held on Friday, September 26, the gap became very clear. With yet another rise (from 37% to 40%), Rousseff doubled her advantage over Silva in the first round simulation.
Her advantage rose from 7 to 13 points. Silva's decline from 30% to 27% contributed to the bigger gap. Senator Aécio Neves rose from 17% to 18%. The other eight candidates in the dispute totaled 4%.
Other positive news for Rousseff was that, for the first time, she appeared ahead of Silva in the second round. In the simulation of the most likely candidates in the second round, Rousseff reached 47% against Silva's 43%.
