FROM RIO

The military police of Rio de Janeiro removed from duties eight police officers involved in the military force that resulted in the death of 10-year-old boy Eduardo de Jesus Ferreira.

Five of them are investigated for participating directly in the event. Two of them work at the Pacifying Police Unit (UPP) Nova Brasília and the other three, at the Shock Battalion.

On Tuesday (7) afternoon the two policemen members of the UPP have confirmed, in testimony, they had used their guns in the area where the boy died.

Eduardo de Jesus Ferreira was shot in the head by a rifle in Complexo do Alemão (North Rio), on Wednesday (2). The community has one UPP since 2012.

Rifles seized from the two policemen who work at the UPP are being analysed by experts. They want to know if the bullet that killed the student was fired from any of the seized weapons.

Eduardo's mother, Terezinha Maria de Jesus, said there had been just one shot when the boy was killed. On the other hand, the police officers say there was a gunfight with drug dealers. In two days, four people died in Complexo do Alemão.

On Wednesday (1st), three people died; two unidentified men and the housewife Elizabeth de Francisco, 40. On Thursday (2), Eduardo Jesus Ferreira died after being shot in the head.
