Judge Sergio Moro stated on Monday (the 2nd) that the investigations carried out by the Operation Car Wash (Lava Jato) task force in Curitiba are close to the end, but that "the anti-corruption movement" in Brazil has taken on different shapes and will go down different paths.
"In Curitiba, there are the Petrobras contracts and the people who benefitted from them. They have all been tried, so I believe things are reaching the final stage. But the 'Lava Jato' stamp is out there, and it is a part of the anti-corruption movement", said the judge who has been overseeing the lawsuits connected to the operation from the capital of Paraná.
Moro went to São Paulo to receive an award from the American University of Notre Dame, an honor that has been awarded to the likes of Saint Teresa of Calcutta.
The award was conceded during a lunch at the Fasano hotel. The judge gave the same speech twice: first in English, then in Portuguese.
As far as wrapping up the operation goes, he did not provide a specific date. "A great deal of work has been done, but that doesn't mean that there isn't any more work left."
He denied any possibility of submitting the lawsuit connected to the operation to a different judge: "I'm tired and it was hard work, but there's no expectation of submitting [the lawsuit] to a different court".
