Odebrecht Indicates That Ex-Prosecutor General Janot Leaked Plea Bargain

Construction company Odebrecht filed a lawsuit in Brazil's Supreme Court (STF) in which it claims that a video with reports of an Odebrecht informer who worked in Venezuela – which had been kept confidential – could only have been leaked by the Prosecutor General's Office in Brasília.

At the time, the head of the Prosecutor General's Office was Rodrigo Janot. Janot left office on September 17.

The video had been kept by the Prosecutor General's Office after an order by Supreme Court Justice Edson Fachin. The report addresses corruption in the Nicolás Maduro government, which allegedly received US$ 35 million in bribes from Odebrecht, according to the informer.

The testimony was leaked on Thursday, October 12, by Venezuela's former Prosecutor General, Luisa Ortega Díaz. Díaz left Venezuela and now lives in exile in Colombia. This year, on August 22, Ortega Díaz met with Janot in Brasília.

Venezuela would only be entitled to receive the video if it closed a deal with the informers of Odebrecht who confessed they had committed crimes in the country, which has not happened so far.

Odebrecht is asking the Supreme Court to investigate the leak and says that no other institution had the testimony that the former Prosecutor General disclosed on social networks.

"The videos with the reports of all the company's collaborators, especially those that deal with the facts that occurred aboard, are under custody of the Prosecutor General's Office, and they had never been officially given to the collaborators or their lawyers or any other person," says the police investigation request.
