The city of Porto Alegre is going to be the main stage of an event which may deeply change Brazil's presidential dispute in October. The appeal filed by former Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), is going to be tried at the TRF-4 (Federal Regional Court of the 4th Region) building.
Six days before the trial, a workgroup of authorities determine, jointly with social representatives, "Lula's operation". It is unlikely that the former president will come to the city next Wednesday (24), but the Frente Brasil Popular movement expects 50,000 people will come to support Lula.
The Public Security Office of Rio Grande do Sul has already determined that the areas surrounding the court will be isolated.
CAMP
According to the president of CUT-RS (Central Union of Workers), Claudir Nespolo, there has been considerable improvement regarding their camp and activities the day before trial. The city is expecting 300 buses from the state's countryside and 150 from other states.
MBL (Movimento Brasil Livre) also has an appointment with Porto Alegre's City Hall on Friday. The group, which is against former president, wants to organize a "Carnival block", called "CarnaLula", at Parque Moinhos de Vento, starting at 6 pm, on Wednesday (24). Their authorization is still pending.
NONSENSE
State Secretary of Security, Cezar Schirmer, says senator Gleisi Hoffmann's recent statement is "nonsense". She is the president of the Brazilian Worker's Party (PT).
This week, the senator said, in an interview to the website "Poder 360", that "people have to be killed" for Lula to be arrested.
