Paraná's Military Police posted 16 new entry-level positions, and among the requirements, one stood out. In a list of 72 psychological attributes that would be evaluated, there was "masculinity".
After facing controversy, the organization switched the term to "belligerence.
According to the job listing, applicants should have "masculinity" equal or more than average, and it was defined as the "ability to withstand violent occurrences, have no issues with vulgarities, show little emotion and no interest in love stories".
Pass the psychological evaluation is mandatory for applicants. Candidates need to have a high school diploma and maximum age of 30. Women can fill half of the positions, according to a state law from 2005.
Job inaptitude is considered by an overall analysis of all requirements. In the case of "masculinity", a candidate needs to pass 2/3 of the psychological requirements to be considered for a position. This means that even if the candidate weren't "masculine" enough, they wouldn't be automatically disqualified.
In a press release, Paraná's Military Police said that "masculinity" was called such by a decision from the job listing's writer. Afterwards, the institution said it would change the denomination to "belligerence", with no detriment to the application process.
