Businessman Abilio Diniz, former owner of Pão de Açúcar Group, raised his stake in Carrefour, the second largest retailer in the world, to 5.07%. The businessman bought retail shares on the capital market.

With this participation, the Brazilian businessman becomes the fourth largest individual shareholder of the retailer group, after the Moulin family, owner of Galeries Lafayette (9.5%); Bernard Arnault, owner of Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy (9%); and the investment fund Colony Capital (5.63%).

To now, Diniz had a 2.4% stake in Carrefour SA. The entrepreneur has to communicate the market every 1 percentage increase in stake.

At the end of last year, the businessman purchased 10% of Carrefour's Brazil unit for US$ 589 million (R$ 1.8 billion). The agreement stipulates that Abilio can acquire other 6% over the next five years.

His increased participation, represented by Península Holdings, may give him a seat on the Board of Carrefour. For this to happen, Abilio has to be nominated by the Council itself and then approved by the shareholders' meeting.

According to a note from Península, Abilio has no intention to further increase his stake in the French group.
